We sat down with Adrian Martin, the Creative Director of Men’s Fashion Post Journal during his recent stay at San Francisco Proper and asked him 8 questions on what it’s like to be to an influencer in this day and age. These are #ProperStories.

What you do for a living?

I’m a creative Director of Men’s Fashion Post Journal and a freelance photographer and stylist.

What does a normal day look like for you?

My normal day without shoots is just basically editing and planning future shoots in a cute coffee shop.

As you travel a lot, what are your top 3 ‘must haves’ when traveling?

My Top 3 must haves- My camera, a Canon 5d Mark IV, Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery and a black sweater – because you’ll never know in any climate when you will need it.

Where do you see influencer marketing heading towards in the future?

It’s actually the future and it will always be evolving. Right now – some brands are leaning towards quality than quantity where they work with micro-influencers with great content than working with influencers with big followers.

What is your favorite social media platform?

You must get a ton of free stuff – What is the best thing you ever received?

I think my favorite would be the Le Labo Santal 33 perfume.

What are you currently listening to on your playlist?

I’m currently listening to my Top 2017 songs on Spotify.

What is your favorite thing to do in your hotel room?

My favorite thing to do is to play music while browsing my Instagram.

Don’t forget to check out his latest blog post, “A Day in San Francisco”, where he highlights his favorite places to stay & visit while in this fine city we call home.

What is Proper?

Proper began as a feeling, not as an idea. The feeling was something akin to empathy; an acute awareness that despite the current proliferation of “boutique” and “lifestyle” hotels and residences, there were precious few properties designed for and around today’s global creative nomad. Many in our milieu share the same daunting challenge: staying fresh and focused, energized and inspired—all whilst bouncing between London and Hollywood and Austin and San Francisco and Portland and back again. For them, intuitive service is a given. Mere table stakes. What they need and seek beyond accommodation, even at its most luxurious, is an inspiration. From the elevated and often surprising interiors imagined by Kelly Wearstler. From the sense of immersion in, and connection to, the vibrancy of the local culture. From the highly curated amenities. From the inspired collaborations with the city’s best and most innovative chefs and mixologists. From music and art. From every detail, every interaction, every moment. This is only Proper. And no one else.
