We chatted with LA-based creative Tommy Lei over Filifera’s new weekend brunch, and asked him 8 questions about his life as a “Creative Communications Connoisseur”, pushing boundaries of style and storytelling. These are #ProperStories.

What do you do for a living?

Digital Personality meets Photographer meets Branding Consultant. My fingers are firmly on the pulse and button at all times. I’m also building towards becoming a hobbyist Real Estate Investor.

What does a normal day look like for you?

There is no normal day when you run your own small business — that’s the beauty and privilege of running your own thing. There are days when I am conducting back-to-back meetings or jet setting somewhere crazy cool for content creation’s sake. There are days where I simply take a step back and retreat to a creative headspace to recharge. How you set your schedule is entirely up to you.

As you travel out a lot, what are your top 3 destinations in the world?

This is a tough one, but here goes in no numerical order in particular:

1.) Museo Soumaya, Mexico City

2.) La Mamounia, Marrakech, Morocco

3.) The Old Man, Hong Kong

Each of these destinations hold a special place in my heart, whether it is my love and admiration for architecture, hospitality and mixology. For a complete list, head over to my portfolio site.

Where do you see influencer marketing & content creation heading towards in the future for brands?

We’re already experiencing the future through present change. Influencers and brands are beginning to see the power of longer-term, more meaningful partnerships that align and evolve over time. On the content creation front, it has to be instantly recognizable and compelling. Creators will need to figure out and determine what makes their content sing and personable to their respective audiences.

What is your favorite social media platform?

It’s a tie between Instagram and Twitter, the latter being a space where I can freely let my stream of consciousness loose.

We see you work with a lot of brands – What are you favorite to work with and why?

All the brands I work and continue to work with on a consistent basis are hand-chosen and carefully selected to ensure it’s something I’d wear, use or promote (even without monetary compensation). Because of confidentiality purposes, I will say that the brands I love are the ones who thoroughly understand my digital presence and life story. They’ve done their research and are willing to envision a tailor-made campaign that is planned with my brand image in mind.

What are you currently listening to on your playlist?

What is your favorite thing to do in your hotel room?

To reconfigure the furniture and decor elements — I want the room to feel like home. Nothing recreates that ambience than personal touch.

What is Proper?
