We met up with SF-based foodie & Art Director Yen Phan during her most recent dining experience at Charmaine’s and asked her 8 questions about her top places in the world to dine and where she sees influencer marketing heading towards in the future. These are #ProperStories.

What you do for a living?

I’m an Art Director for an Advertising Agency

What does a normal day look like for you?

I sit in front of a laptop and an Apple monitor all day, usually with Photoshop opened, designing many projects for my clients. If I am not at my desk, then I am either in meetings for a new project, a brainstorming session, or more meetings for creative reviews.

As you dine out a lot, what are your top 3 restaurants in the world?

Oh wow. Top 3 favorite restaurants in THE WORLD? That’s a tough one. I am always traveling and eating so that list is constantly changing. But as of now, I would say it’s these:

1.) Siji Minfu in Beijing – They serve some of the best roasted duck in the world

2.) Banh Mi Hoa Ma in Saigon, Vietnam – The best eggs and banh mi you can get. So simple. But so good.

3.) Santung Chinese Restaurant here in San Francisco – A personal favorite of mine, the best place in SF for dry wings!

Where do you see influencer marketing heading towards in the future?

I see huge potential! Working in a digital marketing agency myself, I can see where the trends are shifting and how the world of advertising is changing. Honestly, influencer marketing is the future, traditional marketing is slowly falling behind.

What is your favorite social media platform?

Instagram! I am a creative and instagram is the best platform for me to create content and express myself creatively as a photographer.

You must get a lot of invitations to new cocktail bars & restaurants  – What is the best invitation you ever received?

I try to stay away from a lot of cocktail/beer events because I am not much of a drinker. But the best invitations I’ve received, I can vividly remember being SUPER excited about these:

1.) Californios – A 2-Michelin star restaurant in The Mission

2.) Aina – My favorite Hawaiian restaurant in the city! The owner/chef are just so sweet and nice –  I love them.

What are you currently listening to on your playlist?

“Discovery Weekly” on Spotify. They curate a playlist based on what I like and it changes every week! Isn’t that nice? But, I guess it happens to be “Sidewayz” by Baby Bash.

What is your favorite thing to do in your hotel room?

Untuck those sheets!

Don’t forget to follow Yen Phan on Instagram and check out where she is dining and flying off to next.

What is Proper?

Proper began as a feeling, not as an idea. The feeling was something akin to empathy; an acute awareness that despite the current proliferation of “boutique” and “lifestyle” hotels and residences, there were precious few properties designed for and around today’s global creative nomad. Many in our milieu share the same daunting challenge: staying fresh and focused, energized and inspired—all whilst bouncing between London and Hollywood and Austin and San Francisco and Portland and back again. For them, intuitive service is a given. Mere table stakes. What they need and seek beyond accommodation, even at its most luxurious, is an inspiration. From the elevated and often surprising interiors imagined by Kelly Wearstler. From the sense of immersion in, and connection to, the vibrancy of the local culture. From the highly curated amenities. From the inspired collaborations with the city’s best and most innovative chefs and mixologists. From music and art. From every detail, every interaction, every moment. This is only Proper. And no one else.
