How do I get to the hotel?

San Francisco Proper is conveniently located on Market Street in the center of the city. There are two entrances to the hotel: 1100 Market Street and 45 McAllister street. We recommend you use the 45 McAllister street entrance for your initial arrival.  f traveling via plane from outside the Bay Area, we recommend that you fly into San Francisco International Airport (Code SFO), which is approximately 13 miles from the hotel or Oakland International Airport (Code OAK), which is approximately 19 miles from the hotel.

  • UBER/LYFT/TAXI: The taxi cost for transportation to the hotel is $40-50. Lyft or Uber should be slightly cheaper, depending on time of day. Make sure to enter 45 McAllister as the desired address. This will allow you to enter the Hotel at the valet entrance.
  • BART: For guests who wish to take the train, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) runs between both SFO and OAK and San Francisco every 15-20 minutes.
  • DRIVING: Enter 45 McAllister into Waze or Google Maps to arrive to the Hotel at the valet entrance.

Is there Valet? If so, how does it work?

Yes, there is 24-hour valet service at the 45 McAllister entrance. Please keep your valet ticket with you and reference the 4 digit number when requesting your vehicle to be pulled around.  There are multiple ways to do this. We recommend you use the  Proper App.  You can also use the phone in your room to call it in. Or text your ticket number to 415-212-9857. Kindly allow 15 minutes from the time of request for your vehicle to arrive. The cost for overnight valet is $65 plus tax, hourly is $15 for the first two hours and then $15 for each additional hour thereafter plus tax.

What’s the best way to get around the city?

San Francisco is a compact city and San Francisco Proper Hotel is located right in the middle of it. We recommend using your favorite rideshare app, either Lyft or Uber will do, for most trips within the city proper. The Hotel is also a great hub for accessing the city’s multiple public transportation options, with BART and Muni stops only steps away from the front door. And if you want to explore the neighborhood on foot or bike, contact the front desk for our recommended routes or to borrow one of our Shinola bicycles.

  • LYFT/UBER: In the town that invented ride sharing, app-based services like Lyft and Uber are always a smart, affordable and safe choice. We recommend you use the valet entrance at 45 McAllister as your pickup spot.
  • BART:  The Bay Area Rapid Transport is easy, quick and economical. Better yet, we are directly across 7th street from one of the entrances to the Civic Center station where all lines pass through, making it a great transportation choice to traverse the city or to travel throughout many parts of the greater Bay Area.  To find the Civic Center Station, walk out the Market street entrance of the hotel and make a right towards 7th street. You will find the Bart station entrance immediately on the other side of 7th Street.  
  • THE HISTORIC TROLLEY CAR: The world’s last manually operated cable car is also one of San Francisco’s most iconic methods of transportation. Centrally located, the Powell street line is just three blocks east of the hotel along Market Street. The Powell street line is one of the most famous, getting you all the way to Fisherman’s Wharf in a leisurely but scenic manner.
  • BICYCLE BORROW:  If you feel like cruising the Embarcadero or dashing up and down San Francisco’s famous hills, don’t hesitate to borrow one of our complimentary Shinola bicycles. It’s as easy as a few taps of the Proper App.
  • CAR RENTAL: We have handpicked the best car rental options and can make arrangements on your behalf. Contact the front desk and we will set you up.
Is there housekeeping service?

Daily service will take place from 8:00am-4:30pm Monday–Friday and 9:00am–5:30pm on weekends. Nightly turn-down service is from 6:00pm-10:00pm. If you do not wish to have your room serviced, simply hang your “Rest” sign on the door. Should you have special requests for your daily service, please contact the front desk and we will be happy to assist. You may also utilize the Proper App for additional housekeeping requests.

What type of in-room technology can I expect?

Although much of our design draws inspiration from the past, our approach to technology always looks forward. Free WiFi is only the beginning.

  • WIFI: Please select “Proper Hotel” under available networks to connect to our WiFi. There are two tiers that you can choose from, depending on your needs:
    • FAST: 10Mbps, complimentary, up to 3 devices. Perfect for emails, web browsing and video streaming.
    • FASTER: 20Mbps, $20/day, connects up to 6 devices. Perfect for video conferencing and large file management.
  • PROPER APP: The tablet in every room runs the Proper App, your elegant streamlined connection to all of the services offered by Proper Concierge.
  • VIFA WIRELESS LOUDSPEAKERS: Instead of an outdated bedside clock radio, our gorgeous Bluetooth speakers by Vifa connect easily to your mobile device and deliver amazing sound in a stylish package.  
    • To turn Helsinki on, press and hold the mode button until status indicator turns solid white.
    • Press and hold the mode button until status indicator flashes blue.
    • Enable Bluetooth pairing on your device and select Vifa BTxxxxxx as your Bluetooth device.
    • The status indicator turns solid blue when a connection is established.
    • Contact the front desk for assistance.
  • STREAMING WITH GOOGLE CHROMECAST: Our crisp HDTVs are equipped with Google Chromecast, so you can stream 1,000+ apps such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go and Showtime from your own devices straight to the big screen—just like at home. Follow the instructions on the TV screen to learn how to get connected.
  • TELEPHONES: Use the telephone in your room to make local calls (free), long distance within the USA ($1.49/Min), or long distance around the world ($3.50 – $5.00/Min).  Dialing instructions are below:
    • Room to Room: 7 + Room Number
    • Local: 9 + Phone Number
    • Long Distance: 9 + 1 + Area Code + Phone Number

  • THERMOSTAT: All rooms are equipped with air conditioning and heating. The thermostat on the wall in your room can easily be adjusted to suit your personal comfort. Simply touch the on/off button to operate and wait for the green light. You may choose heating or cooling by pressing the mode button and adjust to desired temperature by using the arrow buttons.
If I love some of the items in my room, can I purchase them and take home with me?

We encourage you to take home some of the fantastic items in your room. You can purchase the Proper robe,  Aesop bath products and Vifa Wireless Loud speakers on the Proper App or by visiting the front desk. Please note that you will be charged if any items are missing from your room when you check out.

What time is check out?

In order to accommodate arriving guests, we request that you vacate your room by 12:00 p.m. Should you wish to extend your departure time, use the Proper App to let us know. Every effort will be made to accommodate you and your late check out request. For your convenience, you are able to view your folio anytime on your TV. Should you require an updated folio in the morning or have any questions regarding billing, please stop by the Front Desk or use the Proper App to request a callback.

Can I store my luggage before or after I check out?

Our team will be happy to assist with your baggage. Please do not leave bags unattended in the corridors. Storage is available for bags you do not wish to keep in your room. Use the Proper App to request valet to retrieve your luggage from your room. We can deliver them to your vehicle or place them in storage upon your request.

Can I have my clothes laundered and dry cleaned?

Laundry bags  and dry cleaning forms are located in your guest room closet.  You can get same-day service for laundry if deposited before 9:00 a.m. daily, with the exception of holidays.  Overnight, express and holiday service is available at an additional charge.  For more information or to request laundry pickup, use the Proper App or call the front desk.

Do you have a shoe shine service?

Complimentary shoe shine service is available upon request at all times. Please contact the front desk for assistance or make a request on the Proper App.

How do I schedule a wake-up call?

To place a wake-up call, please contact the front desk.

Can I have ice sent to my room?

Buckets of ice are available 24 hours a day. To make a request, use the Proper App or call the front desk.

If I am traveling on business, what types of services can you support me with?

What types of wellness services can I get at the hotel?

We offer a variety of personalized wellness services including massage, personal training and yoga.  You can make requests in the “Wellness” section of the Proper App or by contacting the front desk.

Do you have a gym? If so, what type of equipment can I expect?

Located on the basement level, our gymnasium offers state-of-the-art equipment including treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, weight machines and free weights.  It’s open exclusively to guests of San Francisco Proper 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. Where can I securely store my valuables?

For your convenience, complimentary in-room safes are located in each hotel guest room.  Under state law, the hotel is not responsible for loss unless articles are stored in safe-deposit boxes at the front desk.  If you require assistance with them, please contact the front desk.

What is your sustainability policy and how can I participate?

Proper is committed to doing the right thing for the environment, our guests, our meeting planners, for the community in which we operate, and for the world. Sustainability is one of the key investments we have made at San Francisco Proper Hotel, with a specific focus on energy and water conservation, waste minimization, sustainable food and beverage, and sustainable meetings and events opportunities. You can help us take care of the environment by minimizing the amount of times your sheets are changed during stay.  Sheets for stay-over rooms are washed every third day or if dirty. Contact our front desk to decline this service and conserve 37 gallons of water, .19 kWh of energy, and 25,000 BTU’s of gas.

Can I smoke in my room or in the public spaces?

All guest rooms and public spaces at San Francisco Proper are 100% non-smoking. A $450 cleaning fee will be charged to any guest who violates the smoking policy.

Can I bring my pet to the hotel?

Pets are welcome at San Francisco Proper Hotel. If you are traveling with a furry friend, you will be asked to sign a pet policy agreement upon check-in which includes a $300 credit card hold in the event of damage to the room.
