We sat down with LA-based Creative Director Bri Emery of designlovefest during her most recent stay at San Francisco Proper and asked her 8 questions about her creativity inspirations and the future of influencer marketing. These are #ProperStories.

What do you do for a living?

I am a Creative Director in Los Angeles.

What does a normal day look like for you?

No day is the same! We run a lifestyle blog, designlovefest. I am either shooting in our studio, traveling for work, or working from home on the couch.

As you travel a lot, what are your top 3 ‘must haves’ when traveling?

I love traveling with my Bose Noise Cancelling headphones, True Botanicals skin care line for dry skin, and I love the small Apple MacBook because it’s so light and easy to carry around.

Where do you see influencer marketing heading towards in the future?

It changes so often, that it’s hard to predict. I do think brands are really looking to partner with people that can authentically integrate their products into their daily life. It seems instagram stories have really picked up and more companies are trying to include that video aspect.

What is your favorite social media platform?

Who inspires your creativity the most and why?

Diana Vreeland, the influential fashion Editor of Harper’s Bazaar, made a huge impression on me. Her constant quest for inspiration and desire to push the limits on creating original content is very meaningful to me. Definitely watch the documentary “The Eye Has to Travel”!

What are you currently listening to on your playlist?

I love listening to true crime podcasts. And lately I have been listening to Esther Perel’s relationship podcast, where should we begin. It’s very fascinating!

What is your favorite thing to do in your hotel room?

I have to say, I do love blacking out the windows, ordering room service, and watching movies in bed!

What is Proper?

Proper began as a feeling, not as an idea. The feeling was something akin to empathy; an acute awareness that despite the current proliferation of “boutique” and “lifestyle” hotels and residences, there were precious few properties designed for and around today’s global creative nomad. Many in our milieu share the same daunting challenge: staying fresh and focused, energized and inspired—all whilst bouncing between London and Hollywood and Austin and San Francisco and Portland and back again. For them, intuitive service is a given. Mere table stakes. What they need and seek beyond accommodation, even at its most luxurious, is an inspiration. From the elevated and often surprising interiors imagined by Kelly Wearstler. From the sense of immersion in, and connection to, the vibrancy of the local culture. From the highly curated amenities. From the inspired collaborations with the city’s best and most innovative chefs and mixologists. From music and art. From every detail, every interaction, every moment. This is only Proper. And no one else.
