Proper Presents: TASTES with Julep

The golden light and timeless mood of The Quill Room set the perfect tone for a night of classic cocktails and live piano this October as we welcomed Grant Medlock-craft bartender from Houston’s acclaimed Julep-to Austin Proper for a one-night takeover. 

Beloved for their mastery of Southern cocktails, the James Beard Award-winning Julep is known for reimagining classic recipes, and as part of our Proper Presents: TASTES series, the evening centered around Medlock’s menu of four distinctive cocktails. While many guests arrived eager to try the bar’s famous Mint Julep, the Café Remedy-with Amaro Montenegro, rye, and coffee-infused vermouth-emerged as a favorite. The carefully curated menu also featured “Is a Daisy,” a delicate clarified milk punch with chamomile and citrus, and the house Farmhouse Gibson with gin, blanc vermouth, and a homemade onion brine. As guests lingered and sipped, local musician Motenko added to the intimate atmosphere with a piano set to close out the night.
