Austin’s own McGuire Moorman Hospitality, the team behind Jeffrey’s, Elizabeth Street Cafe, Clark’s and many other iconic restaurants, is our exclusive partner on the four Proper dining concepts. Indulge in Israeli & Turkish-inspired fare on the ground floor Peacock Mediterranean Grill as well as our on-the-go version, The Mockingbird (opening early 2020), with Coffee, Falafel and Rotisserie. La Piscina (opening early 2020), our poolside restaurant, offers ceviches and sizzling fajita options, or stop by Goldie’s Sunken Bar, our intimate sunken bar, for an elegant cocktail.
Sharing foods and flavors of the Eastern Mediterranean — think North Africa, Greece, Israel, and Lebanon — is the worldly inspiration behind The Peacock Mediterranean Grill. Mezze and wood-grilled fare is colorful and loosely plated, healthy and wholesome. Underneath twinkling rope fixtures hung in various heights, everything is fresh and fragrant — even the natural wines, and light spirits mixed with lots of fresh herbs, fruits and citrus.
Imagine a little old-fashioned back room, with whispers of a Turkish bar… Translated through Austin’s cool, laid-back vibe. Its mix of pink marble tables and warm copper is illuminated by the glow of hand-crocheted covers on suspended glass globes. Seating at the actual sunken bar inspires in-depth conversation, while a 16-foot sofa with bolsters beckons guests to linger over boutique wines, supercall sips and garden-fresh cocktails.
Proper began as a feeling, not as an idea. The feeling was something akin to empathy; an acute awareness that despite the current proliferation of “boutique” and “lifestyle” hotels and residences, there were precious few properties designed for and around today’s global creative nomad. Many in our milieu share the same daunting challenge: staying fresh and focused, energized and inspired—all whilst bouncing between London and Hollywood and Austin and San Francisco and Portland and back again. For them, intuitive service is a given. Mere table stakes. What they need and seek beyond accommodation, even at its most luxurious, is an inspiration. From the elevated and often surprising interiors imagined by Kelly Wearstler. From the sense of immersion in, and connection to, the vibrancy of the local culture. From the highly curated amenities. From the inspired collaborations with the city’s best and most innovative chefs and mixologists. From music and art. From every detail, every interaction, every moment. This is only Proper. And no one else.
